Bio
Curt Garey, originally from Sterling, Kansas, is a freelance musician living in Brooklyn, NY. His love for music and drumming ignited in 5th grade band and is still burning strong. From middle school through high school, he was fortunate to receive expert guidance from Kansas percussion gurus: Ginger Zyskowski, Brad Shores, and Gene “Bones” Hutchinson. As a teenager, Curt began gigging with a couple bands where he was the only kid in the group. These experiences where invaluable for helping the young drummer begin to figure out how the drums function in a band to serve the music. Music studies at Wichita State University, and later University of North Texas, were followed by a move to New York City in 2006. Happy to call NYC his musical home, Curt can be seen performing around town (and abroad) with Nick Palumbo, Peter Maness, The Highline All-Star Big Band Quartet (w. Michael Irwin, Nick Lyons, & Phil Rowan), Holy Crow Jazz Band, The Manhattan Dolls, and many others.
Recent recordings include The Suite Unraveling's self-titled album and Lloyd H. Miller's Glory, Glory, Hallelujah.
